Winnowed is designed around a simple principle: your subscription data belongs to you. Here's what that means in practice.
What we collect
Nothing.
Winnowed does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal information. Everything you enter, including subscription names, costs, review decisions, notes, and receipts you scan, stays on your device. It never leaves.
What we don't do
- No accounts. No sign-in. No email address required to use the app.
- No analytics. No tracking. No telemetry.
- No cloud sync. No remote backups. No servers of any kind.
- No third-party SDKs for advertising, analytics, or tracking.
- No data shared with anyone. Ever.
Receipt scanning
When you scan a statement or receipt, Winnowed reads it in one of two ways, both entirely on your device. On devices with Apple Intelligence, it uses Apple's on-device Foundation Models framework to understand what it is looking at. Everywhere else, it uses Apple's on-device Vision framework to extract text and matches patterns against it.
Nothing is sent to a server in either case. Not a Winnowed server, not an Apple server, not any server. Images and text are processed on your phone and stay there.
Forward Receipts
Forward Receipts is an optional one-time purchase. It lets you select the text of a subscription receipt in Mail, Safari, or Notes and share it into Winnowed through the iOS share sheet.
The shared text is read by the same on-device parser that handles camera scans. No email, no image, and no extracted text is transmitted anywhere. Nothing is forwarded to an address, and there is no server involved at any point.
Siri, Shortcuts, and Spotlight
Winnowed can answer questions through Siri and can be driven by Shortcuts. These run on your device against your own data. Nothing about your subscriptions is sent to Apple or to us in order to answer them.
Winnowed also makes your subscriptions findable in Spotlight. To do that, subscription names and costs are added to the search index that iOS maintains on your device. That index is part of iOS rather than part of Winnowed, and it stays on your phone, but it does mean this information is reachable from system search as well as from inside the app. If you would rather it were not, you can turn Winnowed off under Settings, Apps, Siri and Search on your device.
iCloud backup
Your device's standard iCloud backup, if you have it enabled in your iOS Settings, may include Winnowed's data, the same as any other app. This backup is controlled by Apple, encrypted in transit and at rest, and subject to Apple's privacy policy. Winnowed has no access to it.
This website
winnowed.app uses Plausible, a privacy-preserving analytics service that does not use cookies and does not collect any personal data or cross-site identifiers. All data is aggregate and anonymous. No personal information is ever recorded.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the new version will be posted here and the effective date above will change. No silent updates.
